You leave with a stool that you won’t see anywhere else.

This is an original design that is unique to The Quiet Workshop. It’s different from many of our courses in that it uses a flat top for the stool and a traditional envelope weave.
The course takes places over three days, back to back, usually from a Friday to Sunday.
Day 1: Cut, plane and glue up the top rails of the seat. This needs to be done before we can attach the undercarriage which we’ll make on day 2
Day 2: We’ll plane, shave and scrape the four posts. If you get tired of all that planing and scraping you can always pick a pre-made leg off the shelf! Then you’ll round the rungs using a dowel maker, drill the mortises and cut the tenons. With the undercarriage glued together you attach it to the top.
By the end of day one you’ll have glued your stool together.
Day 3: Seat weaving. You’ll weave the seat from either paper rush, Danish cord or sea grass in a traditional envelope weave. It’s a small seat so if you’ve got any experience of seat weaving this will be a very relaxed day. If you’ve never done this kind of weaving before – don’t worry: you’ve got plenty of time to get it wrong and have another go.
